Marbella

ISLAMIC POINTS OF INTEREST

Marbella has one of the best preserved old towns of Andalusia. You’ll fall in love with its typically Andalusian labyrinthine of narrow streets, dressed in colourful geraniums over white walls and squares that smell of Jasmine and Orange Blossom.

In the old town of Marbella, you will discover The Alcazaba Fortress and its fortified walls, which are a Heritage of Cultural Interest, that form one of the most important remains of The Muslim civilaization of Spain.

Explore Marbella’s Castle, situated in the Old Quarter which was built during the reign of Abdur Rahman the 3rd, who was one of the first Caliphs in Al-Andalus.

Don’t forget to visit The beautiful King Abdul Aziz Mosque,  built by Prince Salman of Saudi Arabia, which overlooks The Golden Mile (one of the most luxurious residential areas in Marbella). It was the first Mosque constructed after The Christian re-conquest and subsequent expulsion of the Moriscos (descendants of Spain’s Muslim population that had converted to Christianity by coercion or by Royal Decree in the early 16th century) from Spain in the 15th century.

The Mosque also contains a library which houses a collection of 30,000 volumes, focusing on Koranic studies. There are beautiful iconic gardens surrounding the Mosque, which you can walk around and relax in.
